One of my closest friends Shane Sigler just did this amazing commercial for the new Ralph Lauren collection at J.C. Penny called American Living. It made its debut during the Oscars broadcast! The upper management at J.C. Penny’s has high hopes for this new collection (given retail sales have been so dismal) so of course they hired the best to create an incredible commerical for them!!

Wow. For the first time in I don’t know how long I am actually going to be before 2am! I was going to do a post/rant about the NY Times Britney article about her being in the poor house soon (This is DEFINITELY not true. I just got word that the totally awesome celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann did the nails of Marion Cotillard. The actor was nominated for an Oscar in the “best actress” category for her performance in “La Vie En Rose.” So you are probably wondering why I am even telling you about this. Well, Lippman also did the nails of Hillary Swank the year she won for “Million Dollar Baby” so maybe she’s the good luck charm Cotillard needs tonight!!
I have to admit, I’m not a big network television watcher, but “Lipstick Jungle” is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The characters are believeable, their problems seem familiar and they all seem WAY less annoying than the Sex and the City crew. Then again, I’m not really watching the show- I’m doing my expenses and looking at the pretty clothes, but still…
OK, so we all know celebs spend a TON on looking good, but the amount they spend during Oscars increases by 1000% especially when they know the world is watching them on high definition TV. Last year I wrote a piece about this phenomenon for Forbes.com. Stylists like Jennifer Rade (Angelina Jolie’s stylist) can make up to $7,000 a day. Zoom whitening can cost you $1,000 for one sitting and a laser facial (to make sure you GLOW) can cost up to $600. And that’s just the basics!! For a custom exercise regimen at a place like Peak Performance in NYC it can run you up to $1,000 a week for private training sessions and a customized diet by celebrity nutritionist Oz Garcia will run you close to $12,000. Ah the joys getting gorgeous…
And THANK GOD I am not in LA covering it. I did talk to my favorite celebrity jeweler Neil Lane about what to expect coming down the red carpet. This is what he had to say:
What we are going to see: “It’s all about the ‘power jewel’ this season” says Lane. You are going to see people one really great, iconic piece as opposed to over layering.”
On the value of having celebrities wear his jewels: “Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and Drew Barrymore are the prettiest women in the world, so when they wear your jewels, you are going to see an increase in sales. One year Gwyneth Paltrow wore a McQueen dress with a black diamond necklace. The whole look was very dark and smoldering. Right after she was on the red carpet, I had a client from Indiana asking to buy that exact piece!”
