Forget LinkedIn, Plaxo or Smallworld.com. The more effective way to build relationships is in real time. And the most agreeable place to do that might just be a private club.
A club? Do we mean some dark, downtown mausoleum where Alfred, the beloved butler, dusts the members periodically? Not exactly.
Those clubs have their charm, but they are creatures of an ever-receding past.
We are trying to get younger faces in here, and to encourage our younger members to outreach, says a member of New York Citys venerable Harmonie Club. But, he adds, This is an old world social club, and while we would think younger members would want to be a part of it, times are changing and their interests fall elsewhere.
