Hip Gear For New Dads

When it came to picking the names for his three kids or selecting the hospitals where they'd be born, Chris Pegula, 35, was happy to leave the decisions to his wife. But when it came to selecting gear, he got involved. Not able to find the style of diaper bags he wanted, he manufactured his own.

"I consider myself a stylish dude," says Pegula, president and founder of Los Angeles-based Diaper Dude, a company that makes high-end diaper bags. "There was no way I was going to carry around some bag with pink and white flowers on it. I wanted something that reflected my personality and style."

Thus was born the "edgy" diaper bag, some in camouflage, others with skulls.

Pegula isn't the only dad embarrassed by the notion of toting around a pastel-colored bag. At Citi Babes, a New York City members-only club for families, dads discuss man-friendly gear.
