Insider Guide To Late-Summer Sales

A $14,000 handbag for $1,000. A pair of $1,000 sling-back stilettos for $200. True Religion jeans for $50.

Sound too good to be true? It’s not for those who know the right way to shop the sales most big department stores (and some boutiques) mount this time of year. These widely advertised sales typically start in July and end in mid to late August.

Robin Kassner, a celebrity stylist in New York City, is a master-strategist who knows how to "game" these sales better perhaps than anybody else.

“Last week I was searching for a handbag for one of my clients, when my contact at Saks Fifth Avenue called to tell me a Chloe Paddington bag [this year’s “it” bag] was on sale for $300, down from [the original price] of $2,000,” she says. She pounced immediately. "I was so thankful she called me first, I bought four other Chloe bags [from her] just to show my appreciation."
