On hot, humid days when the surf is high, Main Beach Surf and Sport in Wainscott, N.Y., experiences what they call "the snake."
"It's a line out the front door and around the block of people wanting to purchase surf gear," says Manager Doug Chapman. "It's mostly guys, and they are looking to buy one thing--board shorts."

In the past, surfers loved these shorts for their many pockets, slim fit and the protection from crashing waves and scratchy sand.
