Unlike most designers, Stacey Bendet, designer and creative director of Alice and Olivia, doesn't mind letting the world know what her collection will look like prior to her spring 2008 fashion presentation.
"[It's] different because [the company] ships product out every month," she says. "It's not like we have one large unveiling every season, so I can talk about the wide-leg, high-waist pants and long polka-dot printed dresses in my September presentation without having to worry about someone stealing my idea."
Talking in advance about a theme of a collection, much less identifying specific pieces, is considered as much a fashion industry taboo as sending a fat model down the runway. Designers like Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg and Calvin Klein go to great lengths to make sure no one knows anything about their collections until show time.
